COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio's House speaker says lawmakers are carefully considering legislation to limit collective bargaining for public workers and he's not setting a schedule for the bill to move through the Republican-led House.

Speaker William Batchelder said Thursday at a legislative preview hosted by The Associated Press that he doesn't think the House will be done with the bill next week. He's not sure about the following week.

Batchelder says he's been encouraged to move the bill along quickly but says that's not necessarily the best answer.

Dozens of people were slated to testify Thursday before an Ohio House panel considering the bill at an afternoon hearing. The chairman of the Commerce and Labor committee says more than 70 people had signed up to speak.

The GOP-led Senate has passed the measure.
